A quick and easy recipe for creamy, savory sausage gravy, perfect for biscuits and a hearty Southern breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the pork sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain off most of the grease, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the skillet.
  2. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the salt and black pepper.
  6. Serve hot over biscuits.

Notes

  • For a spicier gravy, use hot pork sausage.
  • If you prefer a thinner gravy, add a little more milk.
  • You can make this gravy ahead of time and reheat it gently on the stovetop.
