A simple and delicious lasagna recipe using cottage cheese for a high-protein, creamy texture. Perfect for a comforting family dinner.

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (16 ounce) container cottage cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix cottage cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Arrange 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  6. Spread half of the cottage cheese mixture over the noodles.
  7. Sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
  8. Spoon about one-third of the remaining meat sauce over the mozzarella.
  9. Repeat layers: 3 noodles, remaining cottage cheese mixture, 1 cup mozzarella, and half of the remaining meat sauce.
  10. Top with the last 3 noodles, remaining meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella cheese.
  11. Cover with foil and bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 25 minutes.
  12. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  13. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute ricotta cheese for cottage cheese if preferred.
