A savory herb and cheese bread perfect for sandwiches or as a side dish, made easily in your bread machine.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Add water, olive oil, bread flour, sugar, salt, oregano, basil, and garlic powder to your bread machine pan in the order recommended by your manufacturer.
  2. Place the pan in the bread machine and select the “Basic” or “White” cycle.
  3. Ensure the machine is set for a 1.5 lb loaf and a medium crust.
  4. When the machine beeps to indicate it is time to add mix-ins (usually about 10-15 minutes into the kneading cycle), add the shredded Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
  5. Close the lid and let the bread machine complete its cycle.
  6. Once the cycle is finished, carefully remove the bread pan from the machine.
  7. Turn the pan upside down onto a wire rack to release the loaf.
  8. Let the bread cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a stronger herb flavor, you can add 1 teaspoon of fresh chopped rosemary along with the dried herbs.
  • If you don’t have a bread machine, you can adapt this recipe for oven baking. After the first rise, punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, let it rise again, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes.
  • Store cooled bread in an airtight container or bread bag at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, slice the bread and freeze it.
