Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, cored and sliced
  • 1 pear, cored and sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional)
  • Sparkling water or club soda (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and orange liqueur.
  2. Add the sliced orange, apple, pear, and cinnamon sticks.
  3. If using, stir in the sugar until dissolved.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. To serve, pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice. Top with a splash of sparkling water or club soda.

Notes

  • For a white sangria, use a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and substitute pears with peaches or plums.
  • For a nonalcoholic version, replace the wine and alcohol with additional apple cider and sparkling apple juice.
  • This sangria can be made ahead of time, making it ideal for parties.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar to your preference.
