Make this rich, gooey Hot Fudge Pie that tastes like a cross between a brownie and a molten lava cake. This simple recipe delivers decadent chocolate flavor with a buttery crust, perfect served warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pie crust. The batter will be thick.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The edges should look set, but the center will still be soft and gooey, similar to a molten cake.
  7. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve the pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For an old-fashioned version, use a pre-made graham cracker crust instead of a traditional pastry crust.
  • If you prefer a slightly firmer center, bake for an additional 5 minutes, but watch carefully to keep the middle fudgy.
  • This dessert is best eaten the day it is made while it is still warm.
