Make this creamy, flavorful peanut sauce in under five minutes using simple pantry staples. It works well as a dip, dressing, marinade, or sauce for noodles and spring rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup warm water (or more for thinning)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

Instructions

  1. Combine the peanut butter, warm water, soy sauce (or tamari), maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a small bowl.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until the sauce is completely smooth and creamy.
  3. If the sauce is too thick for your needs, add more warm water, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency for dipping or drizzling.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if needed; add more maple syrup for sweetness or soy sauce for saltiness.
  5. Use immediately over noodles, as a salad dressing, or as a dipping sauce for vegetables or spring rolls.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free peanut sauce, substitute tamari for soy sauce.
  • To make this sauce spicy, add 1/2 teaspoon of sriracha or chili garlic sauce while mixing.
  • This sauce keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. You may need to whisk in a few drops of water before serving if it thickens upon chilling.
