A warm and spiced apple cider made easily in your Dutch oven, perfect for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Combine apple cider, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and whole allspice berries in a Dutch oven.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. If desired, stir in maple syrup during the last 15 minutes of simmering.
  5. Strain the cider through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the spices and orange slices before serving.
  6. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, simmer for a longer period.
  • Garnish with fresh orange slices and cinnamon sticks when serving.
  • This cider can be made ahead and reheated gently on the stovetop.
  • Consider serving with a side of gingerbread cookies for a complete fall treat.
