Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and egg.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped chives, chopped parsley, and garlic powder.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a denser crumb, you can reduce the milk by 2 tablespoons.
  • Add other herbs like rosemary or thyme for variation.
