A fast and budget-friendly Midwestern comfort food dish featuring ground beef and egg noodles in a savory gravy, perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and onion mixture. Stir well and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and milk until smooth. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the egg noodles to the skillet. Stir to combine with the gravy.
  7. Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the noodles are tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a creamier gravy, use half-and-half instead of milk.
  • You can add frozen peas or carrots during the last 5 minutes of cooking for extra vegetables.
  • This dish is excellent for meal prep; leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
